Codemasters asked us to pitch a number of brand identity and ident ideas, to help promote their latest Operation Flashpoint title: Red River. A few of these ideas can be seen in the mood boards below, but the ident you see here is the end result. This is an industry first for an ident in that the premise was to turn it into a short story pertinent to new Red River gameplay. The ident’s first person camera perspective is set to feature heavily in the game, in order to create an authentic combat feel.
We devised the treatment accordingly and introduced the dog tag logo reveal at the end to create a more emotive finish. The environment was produced using a combination of CGI modelling and 2D matte painting. The hand was filmed and composited into the scene and the dog tags were modelled in 3D and then introduced. The ident is to feature at the beginning of the game as well as on all promotional material on the run up to the game’s release.
